2,000 Years as a Delicacy and Curative
The cartoon character Popeye immortalized spinach in the popular imagination as a superfood, but actually people have used the plant for more than 2,000 years as a food and as an important curative. Spinach is packed with vitamins, minerals, amino acids, carotenoids, antioxidants, enzymes and flavonoids. One of its most highly regarded phytonutrients is the antioxidant lutein, which has made medical headlines for its role in promoting eye health. Synergy Production Laboratories' spinach powder delivers a rich natural complex of 100% organic lutein, and much more.
Synergized® Spinach for Superior Potency and Purity
It takes twelve and a half pounds of 100% pure, freshly picked organic spinach to produce a single pound of our spinach powder. This beautifully green, powerfully healthy whole food has kept its natural complex phytonutrient system. That's because we harvest only young organic spinach—tender, juicy plants brimming with nutrients, so many that our spinach powder rivals fresh-from-the-garden spinach plants for nutrition.
How does our spinach powder retain this outstanding nutritional profile? We start by planting only old-world varietals of spinach renowned for taste and nutrition and we grow them in the rich soil of the unique Pacific Coast climate. At harvest, the plants are quickly transported to our processing facility before valuable nutrients can be compromised. Each plant is carefully washed in purified cold water before undergoing our proprietary freeze-drying process. The spinach is then cryo-milled (cold-milled) into a free-flowing, brilliant green spinach powder and immediately packaged into our custom-designed hermetically sealed, oxygen-barrier packs. From seed to packaging, this special Synergized™ program ensures maximum retention of the naturally occurring bioactive constituents in our organic, heirloom spinach powder.
Because we rigorously control every facet of cultivation and processing, all of which occurs in the United States, our customers receive a certified organic and kosher whole food powder that has passed stringent identity and potency testing as well as tests for purity that extend well beyond typical industry standards
The Science behind Spinach and Wellness
Medical research confirms centuries of traditional wisdom: spinach is not only succulent but it's also healing as well. In fact, spinach has one of the broadest spectrums of bioactive ingredients in the vegetable kingdom. This dark leafy green plant shows great promise in the prevention and treatment of chronic degenerative diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, cognitive decline, vision deterioration, arthritis and advanced aging. Researchers have particularly focused on the following conditions:
- Cataract and macular degeneration: Spinach contains lutein and zeaxanthin among other nutrients shown to be associated with significantly decreased risks of eye disease. Moeller, S.M., Voland, R., Tinker, L., Blodi, B.A., Klein, M.L., Gehrs, K.M., Johnson, E.J., Snodderly, D. M., Wallace, R. B., Chappell, R.J., Parekh, N., Ritenbaugh, C., Mares, J.A., and the CAREDS Study Group. Archives of Ophthalmology. 2008 March; 126(3): 354-364.
- Coronary heart disease (CHD) and cardiovascular disease (CVD): Scientists have found a significant correlation between higher intakes of flavonoids and dietary carotenoids and fewer incidents of coronary heart disease. Osganian S. K., Stampfer, M.J., Rimm, E., Spiegelman, D., Manson, J. E., and Willett, W.C. "Dietary carotenoids and risk of coronary artery disease in women." American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2003; 77(6): 1390-1399. See also: Voutilainen, S., Nurmi, T., Mursu, J., and Rissanen, T. H. "Carotenoids and cardiovascular health." - Various forms of cancer: The consumption of dark leafy green vegetables including spinach may play a role in the prevention of cancers. Tao, M.H., Xu, W. H., Zheng, W., Gao, Y.T., Ruan, Z.
